PROCEDURE:

Equal parts of the above mentioned 8 drugs are cleaned, dried and crushed. It is boiled with 16

parts of water and reduced to 1/8. Gandharvahastham is of two types- Raktha erandam and

Swetha erandam. When we prepare the kashayam raktha erandam is best because of its

qualities like mala shodanam and agni vardhanam.

Chitraka Shudhi: Chitrakam has to be purified with the lime water before it is used.

Anupanam: Saindavam and Gudam

When saindavam is used as anupanam it produces pavan shanthi, agni deepanam and ruci

vardhanam.

When gudam is used as anupanam it produces malashodhanam and agni vardhanam. It is

anabhisyandhi.

According to Bhavaprakasha nighandu there are two types of gudam. Naveena Gudam and

Purana Gudam. Purana gudam should be used because naveena gudam is abhisyandhi, causes

malabandhanam and agnimandhyam. This kashayam consists of drugs which are kapha vatha

samanam and usnaviryam.

EFFECTS:

Vatha samanam , agni vardhanam, rucyam and malashodhanam but this kashayam can also be

used in some diseases when vatha samanams, agnivardhanam, rucyam and malshodhanam are

being mentioned in cikitsa sutram. So further, we shall consider about the disease in which

these conditions are mentioned. The three diseases in which same causative factors are

mentioned by vagbhata are Arsas, Atisaaram and Grahani.

ARSAS:

In arsas anulomanam of vayu, agni vardhanam and bala vardhanma should be done along with

different anupans.

There are two types of arsas. Sushkarsas and Ardrarsas. This kashayam should be given in

sushkarsas only because Bhallathakam and Chitrakam are the agrayousadas for sushkarsas.

This kashayam is of ushnaviryam this kashayam cannot be given in ardrarsas.

Chiruvilwadi Kashayam is also commonly used in arsas but there is only little difference in the

ingredients of both the kashayas.

ATHISAARAM:

There are two types of athisaaram according to avastha. Aamathisaarama and Jirna athisaaram.

In Aamathisaram sthambhanam should not be done. Agnivardhanam and malasodanam should

be done. Therefore the kashayam can be given in Aamathisaram.

GRAHANI:

Grahani is manily due to agnimandyam. Grahani should be treated on basis of dosham, amam

and ajirnam and also aamathisaram chikitsa should be done. Hence gandharvahasthadi

kashayam can be given.

SVAASAM:

In svaasam food and medicine given to the patient should be kaphavathagnam and ushnam.

Therefore this kashayam is useful in svaasam also.

Vagbhata has said the sthaanam for svaasam as Aamasaayam. Charaka has said the sthaanam

as pitta sthaanam. Both are same because in pitta sthaanas aamasaayam is mentioned. In

aamavahasrotho dushti there will be arochakam, agnimaandyam etc..

URUSTHAMBAM:

In urusthamba the medicines which should be given must be kaphaharam without vitiating

vatham. Hence this kashayam is useful in urusthambam also.

KATI GRAHAM:

In charaka samhitha under samanya chikitsa of ajirnam, kati graham has been mentioned.

There are two types of kati graham according to Bhavaprakasha. They are amavathajanya kati

graham and kevalavathajanya katigraham. This kashayam should be use in Aaamavaathajanya

kati graham.

ACTION ON PANCHA VAATHAS:

Samana vayu and apana vayu are concerned with malashodhanam and agni vardhanam. If both

these vayus are corrected it produces ruchi.

ROLE OF GANDHARVAHASTHADI KASHAYAM IN SROTHAS:

Gandharvahasthadi kashayam is very effective mainly in Annavaha and Purishavaha srotho

dushti.

Annavaha Srothas:

Mulam: Amasayam, vamam and parsavam

Srotho Dushti: Anannabhilasham, arochakam, avipakam, and chardi.

Purishavaha Srothas:

Mulam: Pakvashayam and sthula gudam

Dushti Laksana: Purisham is evacuated with pain, small quantities along with sound, watery

or very tight.

CONCLUSION:

Considering all these references this kashayam can be used in above said conditions. It can also

be used in many other clinical conditions considering the avastha of the disease.
